Occasionally flooring contractors will not fully achieve the required surface regularity limits on the finished slab and discussions between the interested parties have to take place to decide the best way to correct the defects. Many contractors and end users are wary of attempting any sort of remedial work as the appearance of the floor is likely to be affected whatever remedial work is carried out. Unlike defined traffic areas where the exact path of the fork lift truck wheels is known, free movement areas are non-defined and therefore fork lift truck traffic will run randomly across the surface. Therefore in free movement areas where it is important to correct surface regularity defects, the option is normally limited to surface grinding which can be effective providing that the defects are not too severe. Only in more extreme cases of deviation from the specified limits would a floor topping or overlay be considered to correct surface regularity defects.
